Payments and refunds
Last updated 21 October 2026
In short
- The advance for a booking in the app is paid to NikahTent, by card or bank transfer, in Sri Lankan rupees.
- We hold it in a separate account and pay the business 3 days after the event.
- If the business cancels, you get everything back, booking fee included.
- If you cancel, the business's refund policy applies. You see it, and any charge, before you pay.
- Refunds go back the way you paid: to your card, or to your bank account.
When this applies
This page covers bookings whose advance is paid in the app. Booking payments start on a date we announce to businesses at least 30 days ahead. Until then, and for any business whose category does not take payments in the app, you pay the business directly, and anything you paid is settled between you and the business.
The app always shows which applies before you send a request, and a booking keeps the terms it was made with.
Paying the advance
- You send a request, and the business has 24 hours to answer. If it does not, the request expires and nothing is paid.
- When the business accepts, your date is held. Pay the advance within the time shown in the app. If it is not paid in time, the hold ends, the date opens again and nothing is charged.
- You pay ITent Tech (Pvt) Ltd, which runs NikahTent, never the business directly. Pay by card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express) on PayHere's secure payment page, or by bank transfer with the booking reference and a photo of the slip, which our team checks against the bank statement.
- In some categories NikahTent adds a booking fee. It is always its own line, shown before you send the request, and paid together with the advance. Nothing else is added when you pay.
- Once the payment is confirmed, your date is booked and you get a receipt in the app and by email.
- The rest of the price is paid to the business directly, as you agree with them.
We never see or store your full card number. PayHere handles it on its own page.
Where your money waits
Advances are kept in a separate bank account used only for families' advances, never mixed with NikahTent's own money. The business is paid 3 days after the event, once no problem has been reported. That is why we can always give your advance back if the business cancels.
If you cancel
- Cancel in the app, under Me › My wedding bookings. The screen shows exactly what comes back before you tap Cancel.
- The advance comes back as the business's refund policy says, depending on how long before the event you cancel. The policy is shown on the payment screen before you pay, and stays fixed for your booking.
- The booking fee comes back, less a small fixed cancellation charge for handling the refund. The charge is shown in rupees before you pay and again before you cancel. If the booking fee is smaller than the charge, the rest comes out of the advance refund.
If the business cancels
You get everything back: the whole advance and the booking fee. Nothing is taken from you. The business pays the cancellation charge.
A problem after the event
After the event, the app asks both you and the business whether it went ahead. If it did not, or something went seriously wrong, say so in the app within 3 days of the event. We hold the business's payment, hear both sides, and decide whether to pay the business, refund part of the advance, or refund all of it. We tell you both what we decided.
How refunds are paid
| You paid by | Your refund |
|---|---|
| Card | Back to the same card, through PayHere. Your bank may then take up to 10 working days to show it on your statement. |
| Bank transfer | By bank transfer to the account you give in the app, with a reference you can match. |
We send every refund within 7 working days of the cancellation or our decision, and the app shows when it was sent.
Payments made by mistake
- If you were charged twice, or money was taken but your date was not booked, we refund it in full.
- If a payment arrives after your hold ended, it is refunded in full, without you asking.
- If something looks wrong, please contact us before asking your bank to reverse a card payment. Most things are put right quickly.
For wedding businesses
- A basic listing is free, forever. Online booking is optional.
- In some categories NikahTent takes a commission from the advance. We tell you at least 30 days before one applies, and a booking keeps the terms it was made with.
- We pay the advance, less any commission, 3 days after the event, to a bank account in your name or your business's, checked by our team. Changing it needs an SMS code and pauses payouts for 48 hours.
- If you cancel a paid booking, the family gets everything back and the cancellation charge comes out of your next payout. If you owe NikahTent more than your coming bookings cover, online booking pauses until you pay it by card or bank transfer in the app.
- Your statement in the app shows every advance, commission, charge and payout.
Paid plans
NikahTent is free while we grow, and no plans are sold yet. When they start, the price and period are shown before you pay. Plans bought through Apple or Google follow their refund rules. A plan bought on the web is not refunded part-way through, but if you were charged by mistake or twice, we refund it in full.
