Child safety standards

Last updated 17 October 2026

NikahTent is a marriage app for adults. We do not accept child sexual abuse or exploitation of any kind, or any attempt to arrange the marriage of a child.

In short

  • Nobody under 18 may use NikahTent or have a profile on it.
  • Child sexual abuse material, and any sexual or exploitative contact with a child, are banned.
  • We remove it, close the account and report it to the police and the National Child Protection Authority.
  • Report anything worrying from the app, or write to us. A child in danger now: call 119.

Our standard

These are banned everywhere on NikahTent: profiles, photos, chats, business listings and reviews.

  • Profiles of anyone under 18, including profiles made by a parent or guardian.
  • Arranging, promoting or asking about the engagement or marriage of anyone under 18.
  • Child sexual abuse material of any kind: photos, videos, drawings, made by AI or written.
  • Grooming: sexual messages to a child, or asking a child for photos, personal details or to meet.
  • Trafficking, selling or exploiting children in any way.
  • Pictures of children shown in a sexual or exploitative way.

NikahTent accepts profiles only of people aged 18 or over, whatever any other law or custom allows.

Keeping children off NikahTent

  • Every profile needs a date of birth, and our server refuses anyone under 18.
  • Our team reads every profile and checks its photo before other families can see it, and checks a new photo, name or About me again.
  • Every account confirms a mobile number by SMS, one account per number.
  • An ID check (optional) compares the NIC or passport with the birth date on the profile.
  • A chat opens only after both families agree. Links cannot be sent, and the app blocks screenshots of other families' profiles.
  • Profile photos are stored privately. Business listings and their photos are checked by our team before they go live.

How to report

In the app

  • On a profile: tap •••, then Report this profile, and choose Under 18.
  • In a chat: press and hold a message and choose Report this message, or use the menu at the top for Report this family.
  • On a business: tap ••• at the top of its page, then Report this business.
  • The family is never told who reported them.

By email

Write to [email protected] with "Child safety" in the subject. Include the profile ID (such as NT482913) or the business's name if you can.

If a child is in danger now, call the police on 119, or the National Child Protection Authority's child helpline on 1929 (free, 24 hours).

What we do

  • Reports about someone under 18 are urgent and go to the top of our team's list. A profile reported by a family that was in touch with it is hidden from everyone straight away while we look.
  • We remove the profile of anyone under 18, and close accounts that break these standards. A closed account's mobile number cannot sign up again.
  • We remove child sexual abuse material as soon as we find it, keep what the law asks us to keep as evidence, and report it to the Sri Lanka Police and the National Child Protection Authority, and to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where it applies.
  • We help the police and courts with their investigations, as Sri Lankan law requires.

The law

We follow Sri Lanka's laws that protect children, and the child safety rules of the App Store and Google Play. We review these standards at least once a year.

Child safety contact

Our child safety contact reads every report and can explain how we handle them.
